Watauga County:

Communities In Action

NCAST and the Governor’s Highway Safety Program were pleased to host a traffic safety community forum in Watauga County. The forum, held in Boone, NC, was widely attended by citizens and local officials.

NCAST and GHSP are listening to your traffic safety concerns. Because of you, Watauga County is moving into action! Traffic is increasing in Watauga County – and distracted driving is the number one killer on our roads.

In particular, be aware of students walking around campus and cyclists all around the Boone area. And a reminder that AppalCART buses take longer to stop than a standard vehicle.  Be careful and give extra time to slow down when seeing them on the road.

And please use the AppalCART to help cut down on traffic congestion!  AppalCART provides sustainable, high-quality transportation services.

Paying attention, understanding the rules of the road, decreasing speed, changing driver behavior, and advocating for safer roads all save lives and make a difference.
